The 1808 “XX Cash” and “X Cash” copper coins were issued by the British East India Company for use in the Madras Presidency. Designed by John Phillip and engraved by Conrad Heinrich Kuchler, they were minted at the Soho Mint in Birmingham.
The circular rim of the coin on the obverse bears the coat of arms of the East India Company: 2 lions, St George’s cross on the crest and flags, motto on the ribbon ‘Auspicio Regis et Senatus Anglia.’ The date is written below in Latin.
The reverse side of the coin bears its value in Persian and in English below. The script is in Arabic and Latin along with XX cash which is translated as twenty cash which makes four falus. The coin has a plain edge and in a good condition.
