A round gold coin from the Vijayanagara Empire, issued by Devaraya I (1406-22 CE) of the Sangama dynasty in the early 15th century CE, depicts Uma-Maheshwara (Shiva and Parvati).
The image on the obverse side of the coin shows Lord Shiva sitting in padmasana, with Parvati resting on his left leg. Shiva sits with one hand on his consort’s waist and the other with an attribute. Between the two images, a crescent is visible at the top. A three-line Devanagari legend with an interlinear pattern reading ‘Sri Pratapa Devaraya’ is seen on the reverse side.
