The Ikshvakus became independent in the eastern Deccan (modern-day Telangana and Andhra Pradesh) from the Satavahanas and established their capital at Nagarjunakonda (Sri Parvata-Vijayapuri) around 227 CE.
Ikshvaku Dynasty issued lead coins which bear a stylized upright, right facing, tuskless elephant with design on obverse. The Ujjaini symbol is seen on the reverse side of the coin.
