The Ikshvakus became independent in the Eastern Deccan (modern-day Telangana and Andhra Pradesh) from the Satavahanas and established their capital at Nagarjunakonda (Sri Parvata-Vijayapuri) around 227 CE.
Ikshvaku imitated the Andhra potins, and issued lead coins which bear a stylized upright, right facing, tuskless elephant. A Brahmi legend is inscribed at the top on the obverse and the Ujjaini symbol is seen on the reverse side of the coin.
