Bhadrakali, revered in Shakta sect of Hinduism, embodies fierce strength and divine protection. In Telangana, the image of Bhadrakali is linked to a structure built during the 7th to 8th century CE by the Chalukya dynasty, specifically under King Pulakeshin II. This particular sculpture was discovered at the site in Jillella Village, Illentakunta, Siddipet District, Telangana.
This striking stone figurine of Goddess Bhadrakali, seated in a graceful sukhasana pose. She brandishes a damaru in her upper right hand and makes a distinctive gesture with her left—classic iconography that conveys her divine power. Adorned with a celestial coiffure and necklace, she radiates both beauty and strength. The plain back and unique leafy pentagonal shape hint at deeper, possibly esoteric symbolism.
The presence of red coloration, possibly sindhoor, and subtle abrasions speak to the figurine’s age and history as an object of veneration.
