Ganesha holds a unique position in Indian art. His representations showcase a fascinating range of styles and forms, evolving significantly over time. This particular sculpture exemplifies intricate iconographical details and is carved from a soft stone (slate), likely dating back to the Kakatiya period.
Ganesha, bearing the Kakatiya style turban on the head, with an elephant head which has wide ears, and a trunk turned to the left, is seen clasping a tusk in both hands. He is sitting on a pedestal in Lalitasana on a small Mushika (mouse).
Dust and abrasion marks are present. The reverse side is unfinished, but the figurine is three dimensional.
