The Context
During 227 CE, the Ikshvakus separated away from the Satavahanas in the eastern Deccan, established their capital at Nagarjunakonda (Vijayapuri). Ikshvaku imitated the Andhra points (3rd century CE) and created lead coins with an elephant stylized standing facing right and without tusks. The reverse has the Ujjaini symbol, while the top of the coin has the Brahmi inscription written.
