The Context
The Vishnu Kundin dynasty, rising to power in the 5th century CE from Vinukonda of Andhra, minted coins uniquely, uninscribed one. They first cast circular flans and then die-struck designs onto them. Their coins, possibly influenced by Satavahana coinage.
An obverse side of the coin featured a lion, the dynasty’s emblem and on the reverse, symbols like the shankh shell between two lamps or a pot with flames. These artifacts offer insights into ancient Indian culture and governance.
