A celt is a smooth, prehistoric stone tool, similar to an axe or an adze, that is used for cutting or shaping. This celt was found at BNR Hills (locally known as ‘Tabelu Gundu’ or ‘Tortoise Rock’) in Hyderabad.
The celt features a crude cutting edge with flaking on one side and a plain surface on the other. An unpolished stone ‘dolerite dyke’ is used for making these celt heads which are designed for attachment to wooden shafts, primarily used for felling trees or shaping wood.
