The Mesolithic period was marked by key innovations like parallel-sided blades. It also showed a strong trend toward creating microliths which are smaller tools owing to environmental changes.
This microlith, made of black chalcedony, shows clear downward flaking along its sharp edges. Used as a flake tool, it has both crude and refined edges. Chalcedony, common in the Mesolithic period, was preferred for its ability to produce thin, sharp flakes.
