A celt is a polished prehistoric stone tool used for cutting or shaping, resembling an axe or adze. Common in the Neolithic period, it served tasks like farming and woodworking. The celt is found at BNR Hills (locally known as ‘Tabelu Gundu’ or ‘Tortoise Rock’) in Hyderabad.
The celt features a crude cutting edge with flaking on one side and a plain surface on the other. An unpolished stone celt head is designed for attachment to a wooden shaft and is primarily used for felling trees or shaping wood. While commonly associated with the Neolithic period.
