Nandi, the bull, was highly valued for both its economic and symbolic significance. This deep respect resulted in the establishment of the cult of Nandi, which reached its peak in worship and sculptural art during the Kakatiya dynasty in the 12th century CE. This remarkable sculpture exemplifies the Kakatiya style.
This miniature Nandi has been skillfully carved from black stone. The sculpture displays intricate three-dimensional views, featuring a cross design on its head and bell-shaped necklaces. In front of the Nandi, there is a small ‘shivalinga’. The sculpture is in a seated position, although the very tip of its mouth is broken.
