This 17th-century Golconda painting represents a Begum seated on a dark brown horse in a commanding, warrior-like pose.
Positioned on a dark brown horse, the Begum appears in a three-quarter view with her face in profile. Her determined expression and outstretched hand suggest that she is in a hurry with her gaze directed behind her. The illustration of the soil as a dusty plume conveys the speed at which she is riding.
A lush, green hilly landscape overlooks a fort and bastion on a distant hill, with a marble palace in the background where the Sultan is seen engaged in a discussion with a prince and other attendants.
