This magnificent painting, a portrait of Sultan Abdullah (1626–1672), the seventh Qutub Shahi monarch, showcases the refined style of the Golconda School with its distinctive thin-line outlines and regal three-quarter view.
The Sultan’s profile highlights his majesty and restraint. The use of contrasting colors enhances the visual impact. In his right hand, he holds a sword and a dagger is tucked in his Patka. His head is adorned with a golden, embellished turban reflecting the prosperity of the era.
The delicate outlines, expressive features, halo and borders underscore Abdullah Qutub Shah’s (1626-1672) authority and grace. At the top of the painting, “Sultan Abdullah” is inscribed in Urdu Persian script.
