The Golconda School thrived under the prosperous reign of the Qutb Shahi kings. This painting exemplifies the era’s luxurious style, depicting an older Sultan Abdullah Qutb Shah in a three-quarter view.
The painting depicts Deccani portrait of Sultan Abdullah Qutb Shah. The artist uses contrasting colors to showcase the Sultan’s wealth. Dressed in a golden robe with floral patterns, he holds a sword and a kerchief, symbols of royalty. While no inscription confirms his identity, the painting’s style and timeframe strongly suggest it’s Abdullah Qutb Shah, further supported by the Urdu Persian script accompanying the artwork.
Preserving this exquisite artistic legacy necessitates conservation efforts, particularly due to damage evident in the corners of the painting.
