This lavish court scene depicts the Darbar of the Qutb Shahi kings, who ruled Golconda from 1518 to 1687. Reflecting the region’s prosperity, the Golconda School is known for its rich colours, gold detailing, and cultural fusion of Persian, Hindu and Islamic styles. Featuring profile faces and three-quarter views with refined compositions, vibrant settings, and opulent costumes.
King Qutb Shah sits regally on a golden throne, surrounded by nobles and servants. Attendants holding flywhisks and golden parasols flank the king while a vibrantly coloured floral carpet covers the floor. Beautiful calligraphy of Urdu and Persian inscriptions adorn the top and bottom of the painting, completing this portrayal of the opulent Golconda court.
