In Yanamadala village, Prathipadu mandal, Guntur district, another story unfolded. While visiting the Rama temple, a lengthy slab caught my eye at the entrance. On closer inspection, it turned out to be a 13th Century CE inscription with divine carvings of Ganesha and others, engraved on all four sides.
Despite sensitizing the temple authorities about its historical importance, the inscription slab remains buried in plain sight, awaiting the protection it deserves.
Shockingly, the priests informed us it was repurposed as a foundation stone for the compound wall and dismissed as ‘useless.’ Such moments remind us of the delicate balance between history and present-day needs and the urgency of preserving our heritage.
