Chennakesava temple, 1099 CE, Polepalli, Mahaboobnagar, Telangana

Findings

Over 900-year-old Chalukyan temples and sculptures are lying in neglect at Polepalli of Jadcherla in Mahbubnagar district.

Call to Action

Pleach India sensitised the local community to preserve heritage structures. The villagers cleaned the premises by removing debris and bushes around the temples on 04.02.2024 under our guidance and maintaining the heritage site.

Rock art site, Mesolithic Period, Yadaram, Medchal, Telangana

Findings

The Pleach team explored a remarkable rock art site near Hyderabad, showcasing paintings from the Mesolithic to early historic period. The art includes bulls, human figures, X-ray depictions, geometric designs, and scenes from Satavahana times, offering a glimpse into ancient life and culture.

Call to Action

Pleach India suggested that the area could be developed into an archaeological tourism centre, connecting nearby rock art sites such as Pyararam, Lingam Thanda, and Bommalaramaram, all within a 25-km radius, accessible via Rajiv Rahadari and ORR. He urged the residents of Yadaram to preserve these paintings.

Sculptures, 9th-13th Centuries CE, Jogipet, Sangareddy, Telangana

Findings

1000 year old sculptures of Mahishasuramardhini, Chennakesava, Janardhana, Naga deities found on the Nagulakatta, at the banks of Pedda Cheruvu. The sculptures belong to Rashtrakutas, Kalyani Chalukyas as well as Kakatiya period.

Call to Action

Dr. Sivanagi Reddy appealed to the Dept. of Archaeology & Museums to preserve the sculptures of historical importance and if an exhibition hall is set up and displayed in the town, it will become a tourist center.

Nandi Sculpture, 12th Cen. CE, Ghattuppal, Nalgonda, Telangana

Findings

Broken Nandi sculpture of Kandur Chola period near the Vinayaka well in the suburb of Ghattuppal was found.

Call to Action

Pleach India appealed to the local people to move the 800-year-old sculpture, to the Markandeswara temple in the village and preserve it and present it to future generations.

Rock cut caves and Jaina sculptures, 11th Cen. CE, Yellakonda, Vikarabad, Telangana

Findings

The rock-cut caves and historical sculptures at Yellakonda village are in a neglected state. Shaivite and Jain artefacts are damaged by chemical coatings and scattered. 

Call to Action

Pleach India sent a proposal to EPTRI (Environment Protection Training & Research Institute) on how to documented and conserved the site using scientific methods, the impact would be profound and preserve heritage structures for posterity.
Urgent preservation efforts and proper maintenance are needed to protect this site.

Sivalayam, 13th Cen. CE, Bhumaram, Suryapet, Telangana

Findings

Pleach Team noticed that the Shiva Lingam and Nandi in the sanctum were dilapidated. The 800-year-old temple buildings are dilapidated due to lack of maintenance.

Call to Action

Dr. Nagi reddy appealed to the government to preserve the buildings and sculptures which are a mirror of the local history and provide them to the future generations.

Stepwell, 17th Cen. CE, Tupranpet, Yadadri-Bhongir, Telangana

Findings

A Qutub Shahi period step well, 100 feet away from the national highway, on the right side of the road leading to Vijayawada was found. The well is 70 feet long, 45 feet wide, and 50 feet deep.

Call to Action

Dr. Nagireddy appealed to the Panchayat that if fencing and a  board with historical details is erected around the well, it will become a good tourist center on the national highway and attract visitors to and from Hyderabad.

Mahavira, 10th Cen. CE, Nayakallu, Kurnool, Andhra Pradesh

Findings

The ancient Vardhmana Mahavir Jain idol is lying in a state of utter neglect on the outskirts of Nayakallu village. While doing the survey the team came across the 24th Jain Tirthankar Vardhman sculpture carved out of black basalt stone.

Call to Action

Dr. Reddy along with his team urged the villagers to shift sculpture to other place for preservation.

Indreshwara Temple, 13th Cen. CE, Indrakal, Nagarkurnool, Telangana

Findings

700-year-old Indreshwara temple from the Kakatiya period currently in a dilapidated state is found. Located in the fields of Indrakal village, about 6 km from Tadoor Mandal, Nagarkurnool district, the temple, with its sanctum, inner hall and main hall reflects the architectural brilliance of the Kakatiya era.

Call to Action

Pleach India, has requested villagers to preserve & protect the temple so it may regain its former glory.

Menhir, 1500 BCE, Uppununtala, Nagarkurnool, Telangana

Findings

An Iron Age menhir datable to 1500 BCE was found lying next to river Dindi. The menhir is just 100 ft away from the road and lies in utter neglect in the agricultural fields measuring 8 ft in height, 2.5 ft in width & 1.5 ft in thickness.

Call to Action

Pleach India appealed to the field owner and villagers to protect the preserve it for posterity.

Narasimha Temple & Sculptures, 12th Cen. CE, Mamillapalli, Nagarkurnool, Telangana

Findings

900 years old temple, sculptures and inscription are found at Mamillapalli village. The walls, pillar and shikara of the temples are coated with colours.

Call to Action

Dr. Reddy appealed to the locals to remove the painted colours and restore the temple to its former glory.
