The Context
The Ikshvakus became independent in the eastern Deccan (modern-day Telangana and Andhra Pradesh) from the Satavahanas and established their capital at Nagarjunakonda (Vijayapuri) around 227 CE. Ikshvaku Dynasty (3rd cen. CE) issued lead coin which bears a stylized Elephant standing facing right, does not possess tusks along with design on obverse and Ujjaini symbol is seen on reverse side of the coin.
