The Context
The Ikshvakus became independent in the eastern Deccan (modern-day Telangana and Andhra Pradesh) from the Satavahanas and established their capital at Nagarjunakonda (Vijayapuri) around 227 CE. Ikshvaku imitated the Andhra potins (3rd century CE), issued lead coin which bears a stylized Elephant standing facing right, does not possess tusks, brahmi legend is inscribed at the top on obverse and Ujjaini symbol has seen on reverse side of the coin.
