The Context
Devaraya I, the emperor of the Sangama Dynasty-ruled Vijayanagara Empire, issued only one gold coin, it is portrayed as Uma-Maheshwara (14 Cen. CE). The image on the reverse shows Lord Shiva sitting in padmasana, with Parvati resting on his left leg. Her hands are in the Namaskara mudra. Shiva with one hand on his consort’s waist and the other is with attribute. Between the two, crescent is visible, at the top. Three-line Devanagari legend with interlinear pattern is seen on reverse.
