From Tea Stall to Museum: The Remarkable Journey of a 1,500-Year-Old Pillar

In the quiet village of Pinakadimi, Eluru district, a routine tea break turned into an extraordinary moment
of discovery for Dr. Emani Sivanagireddy, CEO, Pleach India Foundation.. Resting in a modest
thatched tea stall, he noticed intricate carvings on the central “pole.” Closer inspection revealed it to be a 32-fluted Buddhist pillar from the 5th century CE, a relic of the Salankayana period.

When Dr. Sivanagireddy shared its historical significance, the astonished villagers realized they had been unknowingly safeguarding a 1,500-year-old treasure. When Dr. Reddy returned to the village two weeks later, he was extremely elated to see that the villagers removed the pillar from the stall…

and installed it on a pedestal at the village entrance, making it a proud symbol of their heritage.
