Ant Hills to Ancient Glory: A Cave Rediscovered

In the serene hamlet of Sithanagaram near Vijayawada, what seemed like an ordinary, partially modernized cave turned out to be a hidden gem from the 1st century CE. Our PHP campaign team ventured inside, uncovering a rock-cut Buddhist cave once used by monks during the Satavahana era as a rainy retreat.

The cave was in a neglected state, overrun by ant hills and obscured by time. With care and dedication, we cleared the ant hills, restored the space and sensitized the local Anjaneya temple priest to its historical value.

Today, this ancient site stands upright in all its glory, welcoming visitors and intriguing scholars alike—a forgotten dungeon transformed into a beacon of heritage.
